Without a doubt, Harry Potter's wizarding world would be the first answer out of my mouth if I were asked which fictional book world I would want live in. Unfortunately, I have already made a rule that I cannot use Harry Potter for any of my book challenge categories because that would be really too easy.
I asked someone else this question while I pondered it myself, and they, being a Game of Thrones fan, answered the Westeros. I then reminded them that no one ever gets a happy ending in those books, and they would very likely not survive very long in that world.
I am a lot of fun at parties, I tell you.
While reading Phillip Pullman's Dark Material's series, I always wondered what my own daemon would take the form of, so I am going to choose The Golden Compass for this category. If you are not familiar, in this fantasy universe, all humans are born with their souls taking on the form of some sort of animal shape that reflect their personality and character. For example, someone who is loyal may have a dog daemon. I, myself, have always wondered what kind of daemon I would have, if they existed.
It's interesting to hear discussions with other people who have read the books about how different animal interpretations would differ from other cultures. For example, a snake may be construed as untrustworthy in one context but to another person, a snake could represent rebirth or guardianship.
I've read this book a few times over the years, and it's a classic to me. I like the first book the best where Lyra, our plucky, young heroine, is on a journey to save her friend, and finds some pretty shocking secrets along the way. The other two in the series are not as exciting, and the third book is a bit controversial (some schools have banned it).
Also, don't watch the movie. They did a terrible job with it, even with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, both of whom I thought would be fitting for the roles that they were cast for.
